This is my first week not just attending but also contributing
to Origami Vinyl’s Record Club at El Prado!
Not gonna lie, I’m a little nervous.
I mean, you know how Echo Park is.
According to Ke$ha, there’s “pretension everywhere”
so I mean, I gotta come packing some heat.
I only had a record player from the ages of eighteen to eighteen and my record collection consisted solely of my grandma’s Rat Pack albums, a good portion of the Beatles’ discography and the entire Saddle Creek label from the early ’00s.
Since Christmas, I’ve been working on building up my vinyl collection to a presentable state, which I feel has been going pretty well but at the same time, I’m not sure a lot of these albums I’ve been procuring would be necessarily good for an evening at the local speciality beer spot with the who’s-who of the hood.
Gotta keep a sweet rep’, ‘nah what I’m sayin’?
So, I’ve narrowed it down to three choices from my collection that are not slow as shit, not anything like Fifty Guitars In Hawaii and not embarrassing:
- Girls’ Album
- Desolation Wilderness’ New Universe
- 60 Watt Kid’s We Come From The Bright Side
Okay, guys!
HALP ME!
FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE FUCKING IMPORTANT!

c’maaaahhhn!!! 60 watt is too local and Girls are kinda known and the snobs will be like “oh… Girls…”
but it’s so poppy & fun!
oh no both are lovely! i just saw 60 watt and they were great. just saying the kewl kids wouldn’t go for them. i should have added that desolation wilderness was perfect! and it seems as it was. carrying on now!
Girls is great but it’s “old” and “blown-up” in blog years, so the pretentious peeps might be like “that’s soooo 2009.” Even though des-wild is also just as old, its way more under the radar, and I think would be more impressive.
yeah. right now that’s what i’m leaning towards.
Yeah I imagine girls will be met with a pssh. Shame, though. I hate when I find where internet music hyper-douchebags actually bring the same mentality to real life.
i think you went with Desolation Wilderness…and I hope so…such a good record. it’s cool that the who’s who hand out in a bar with good beer…if that was here it would all be I’ll have what’s cheapest.
i did! it’s funny cause when i signed up, i told the dude i was bringing it. shoulda just gone with my gut the whole time apparently haha. yeah, it’s a really sweet night. the bar, el prado, is the nicer bar on this side. & we all ask for the cheapest as well haha.
[...] Last week was a success with Desolation Wilderness! So, I gotta keep the jams pumped tonight & keep representing Tangents style. [...]
